Le détective Bell essuie des coups de feu alors qu'il se trouve au volant de sa voiture. Son véhicule fait un tonneau, mais il s'en sort indemne. Ayant reconnu le véhicule, Bell est persuadé qu'il s'agit de Bradshaw, un truand qu'il avait réussi à appréhender et qui est tout juste sorti de prison. Mais le lendemain, ce dernier est retrouvé mort. Bell devient rapidement le suspect numéro 1... Par ailleurs, Sherlock encourage Watson à suivre des cours d'auto-défense et propose qu'elle devienne son associée
