Un brillant analyste du NCIS en visite à Moscou pour des raisons familiales a l'impression d'être suivi et en danger. Face à la menace, Gibbs et McGee se rendent sur place pour le rapatrier mais leur hélicoptère, pris pour cible par un missile, atterrit en catastrophe à 20 km de la frontière finlandaise. Ayant perdu toute transmission, ils se retrouvent totalement isolés alors que le reste de l'équipe tente de les localiser et d'identifier les responsables de l'attaque
