Le capitaine Hastings parle à Hercule Poirot de l'ouverture d'un restaurant à Londres. Celui-ci porte le même nom qu'un restaurant de Buenos Aires où il a séjourné. Un iris arrive par la poste, ce qui rappelle encore au détective son malheureux séjour en Argentine : Iris, l'une de ses relations, avait été tuée, mais il avait dû partir sans avoir le temps de mener l'enquête. Cette fleur serait-elle un signe pour qu'il reprenne cette enquête inachevée ?
