Joy Arden, garde du corps de Largo, se précipite au Kentucky afin d'aider son ex-mari, David Crossley, qui aurait volé le Groupe W pour rembourser une dette de jeu. Crossley est le vétérinaire de la ferme d'étalons du Groupe W située à Versailles, dans le Kentucky. Il est responsable du programme d'insémination artificielle visant à engendrer des chevaux de course gagnants. Quelques jours auparavant, Crossley s'était enfui avec une fiole contenant le sperme d'un cheval tenant du titre de champion
