Rachel Hemming est retrouvée morte dans son appartement, où les détectives découvrent un laboratoire clandestin d'amphétamines. Alors qu'on tente de relever des empreintes sur son corps, l'appartement prend feu. Les scientifiques réussissent néanmoins à déterminer que les empreintes trouvées sur son cadavre appartiennent à son frère. L'autopsie révèle également qu'elle était enceinte. Rachel était l'informatrice d'un agent de la CIA. Un émetteur caché sous sa peau va permettre d'écouter sa dernière conversation
