Dave Underhill, un scientifique brillant, demande à Leonard de travailler avec lui, ce qui suscite la jalousie des autres de la bande. Il est beau garçon, sportif, joue dans un groupe de rock, collectionne les vieilles motos et en plus il est drôle... Leonard l'idolâtre rapidement, jusqu'au moment où Dave rencontre Penny et qu'il commence à la séduire. Leonard est effondré. Noël approche, une source d'angoisse pour Sheldon, qui ne veut offrir de cadeau que s'il en reçoit un avant.
