Diane Langton est retrouvée morte dans un appartement qui n'est pas le sien. Mac dirige l'enquête et découvre que la jeune femme est entrée dans les lieux par effraction grâce à une carte de crédit. Parallèlement, Stella enquête sur la mort d'Emery Gamble, un producteur de musique. Son avant-bras a été profondément entaillé et il s'est vidé de son sang. Stella se blesse sur la scène de crime et découvre que la victime était atteinte du sida. Elle est très inquiète, craignant d'avoir été contaminée
