Le 10 janvier 1941, le commissaire de Kervern découvre Alfred, son meilleur ami, mort d'une crise cardiaque dans les bras de Natacha, prostituée à l'hôtel de la Pompe. Alfred n'a plus son portefeuille sur lui et Natacha refuse de reconnaître qu'elle l'a volé. De Kervern, furieux, décide de l'interroger. Pendant ce temps, Daniel rend visite à Marcel et tente de le convaincre de renier le Parti communiste pour pouvoir sortir de prison
