La jeune Rachel Grier, artiste de cirque très populaire, a été retrouvée assassinée. Les bras de la malheureuse ont, entre autres tortures, été transpercés d'une nuée de longues aiguilles. Celles-ci ont été sadiquement implantées pour réduire au maximum les saignements, mais pour favoriser la douleur. Ce meurtre atroce pousse l'équipe des Experts à s'intéresser à l'univers peu commun des spectacles ambulants
