L'équipe du SG-1 séjourne sur la planète Tollana pour assister aux funérailles de leur ami, le chancellier Omoc, disparu dans d'étranges circonstances. Le nouveau chancelier, Travell, opère un changement radical de sa politique extérieure. Les Tollans veulent dorénavant partager avec la Terre leur technologie d'armement high tech. Ils ont choisi le colonel O'Neill comme négociateur. Ce dernier est perplexe. Pourquoi un tel revirement de la part des Tollans ? En quittant la planète, Narmin, une vieille connaissance du SG-1, tend discrètement un petit objet au major Carter. Il s'agit d'un hologramme qui les avertit d'un danger extrême
