Le bal de la promo de la «Nathanson Academy» prend une tournure tragique lorsque Robert Greggs, le conseiller d'orientation, est retrouvé assassiné. Son visage a été partiellement dissous par de l'acide hydrofluorique. En examinant le cadavre de près, Sid découvre que le malheureux est décédé suite au jet d'acide, mais il remarque également qu'il s'est violemment battu auparavant... Mac, qui travaille sur une autre affaire, va devoir s'occuper également de ce dossier car la fille de l'inspecteur Stanton Gerrard est scolarisée dans cet établissement
