Un soir, il reçoit la visite d'un corbeau parlant qui lui révèle être le Dr Bedlo, ex-magicien changé en oiseau pour avoir osé défier le grand maître Scarabus. Bedlo informe Craven qu'une femme ressemblant à Lenore est prisonnière de Scarabus
