Shere Khan est en train de poursuivre Mowgli à travers la jungle lorsque celui-ci tombe dans les sables mouvants. Malgré les suppliques de Mowgli, Shere Khan l'abandonne à une mort certaine. Mais la fortune tourne. Mowgli finit par s'en sortir. Plus tard, Shere Khan se retrouve confronté, à son tour, au danger tandis que Mowgli se trouve dans la position de pouvoir décider du sort de son ennemi. La conscience du petit d'homme le pousse enfin à sauver le tigre. Shere Khan peut repartir sain et sauf et maugréant : il a eu une sacrée leçon.
